Working on the theory that I have nothing to lose but a bit of time, I soldered together the Slaters steel coupling rods and cleaned them up &#8211; they look a lot better to the naked eye thank they do in the photo&#8230;. Leaving them looking like this<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/LNER-F8-0041.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-598\" alt=\"LNER F8 004\" src=\"http:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/LNER-F8-0041.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"428\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/LNER-F8-0041.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/LNER-F8-0041-300x160.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/LNER-F8-0041-500x267.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I still need to open out the holes for the crank pin bushes. Having had quite a few bits of advice\/suggestions I have ultimately decided on: \u2022 Radial trucks front and rear but shorted out one side only and picking up one from each side and I will see how I get on with the Gibson wheels \u2013 Slaters don\u2019t do the correct size either, so worn it will be. If I have any problems with the Gibsons I will replace them with Slaters. \u2022 Working inside motion but the crank axle wheels will only be shorted to the crank pin and will use the coupling rods to pass the current. \u2022 Split axle for the remaining drive axle.
