This is something that I pay attention to as I&nbsp;have been bitten before and indeed this one is a replacement for one of the former San Cheng gearboxes which required a slot cutting in the axle to allow the grub screw to screw in&nbsp;far enough to clear the intermediate gear above it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/1-IMG_0004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"855\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/1-IMG_0004-1024x855.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6495\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/1-IMG_0004-1024x855.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/1-IMG_0004-300x251.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/1-IMG_0004-768x641.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/1-IMG_0004-359x300.jpg 359w, http:\/\/www.railway-models-and-art.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/1-IMG_0004.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Slaters SG38CANL Gearbox<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although this image is much magnified, the grub screw fitted to the gear is tiny and I had no idea what size hex key it needed and no way of measuring it. I decided to give Slaters a&nbsp;ring to ask what size I needed.<br>I rang and explained my problem and the gent that I spoke to (Martin) immediately said Oh! we should have supplied one, let me have your details and I will get one in the post.
