07 Models LNER N8/N9 Chassis

Purely by chance this morning I was looking in my older kit boxes for some large BA screws and nuts for a little job for a friend, when I lifted out the chassis for my N8/9. I started fiddling with it and in about 15 minutes I had it loosely assembled.
it would have been even quicker had I not got two of the frames spacers in the wrong place – one is narrower than the others to accommodate the overlapping and narrowing of the frames to house the trailing/radial truck assembly. The kit has milled frames and coupling rods and unlike my other builds, I think that I shall leave this one rigid. I rather like the design of the trailing/radial ruck and I think it will work well in practice albeit not looking particularly pretty.

I did have to ream out a couple of the bearing holes with a 1/4 inch reamer, but other than that it went together very easily. Although I might solder the bearings in I can’t do much more until I assemble the basic body to see how the motor will fit.

I originally planned to fit my second Shogun unit in the same configuration as the N10. But leaving the chassis rigid, means that I could place the gearbox on the centre axle and use a different motor/gearbox instead I will test what might fit, as in any event I will have to mill out the boiler tube to accommodate whichever unit I end up choosing. Decisions, decisions.
